Title: 7 Great Tips for Easily Finding Cheap Hotel Rooms

Author: Julie Davidson

Article:

Imagine heading off on your dream trip but then not being able to spend money on anything else because the Hotel room is SO expensive! It's something we've all had to face, do I spend more on the hotel room and have less to spend on activities or do I spend less on the hotel room and stay somewhere undesirable? What if there was a way to spend less and still stay well? If you read on you'll see some great tips that can save you money on your next trip!

Know What You Want

Before you can save money, you need to know what you want from a hotel room. Do you want to have a luxurious place to stretch out and relax, or a cheap, modest room to quickly change clothes before you head out to see the sights? It's easy to narrow down what you're looking for by thinking about what kinds of extra's you need to have. Do you have to have a pool? Do you need internet or a restaurant at the hotel. Knowing what you want will help you narrow down the search so you can find cheap hotel rates.

Beware of Packages

Sometimes you can find cheap hotels by looking for packages that combine two services, such as hotel and your flight, or hotel and care hire. Sometimes you can find yourself actually paying quite a bit more by booking your airfare and hotel rooms at the same time.

At one package booking agent, you might be persuaded to book a flight from Sydney to the Big Apple (New York City, USA), and a seven night hotel stay at the Pennsylvania (near the Empire State Building), priced at $5,480. However, if you went to Qantas Airlines (Quantas.au.com) and the Hotel Pennsylvania (www.hotelpenn.com) and booked your flight and room separately, you'd pay $4,770. This isn't always the case, of course, but sometimes packages aren't all they're cracked up to be.

Make sure you check the rates, or you'll think you're getting a good deal while the booking site laughs all the way to the bank. The very same hotel stay can be the same price or even more expensive through a "discount" agency than if you booked through the hotel directly.

The moral of the story? Do your research! Make sure you know how much a night at a hotel is alone and then compare with your package rate to ensure you're getting the savings you deserve.

Good Package Deals

Not all package deals are bad, as long as you know what you're looking for. For example, your car rental agency may offer a free night at a participating hotel. The deal may be a third night free after a two-night stay, but if you're planning on staying several days anyway, it's a good deal.

Online Bookings to the Rescue

Some sites are just worth their weight in gold when trying to book cheap hotel rooms, and here are two that are priceless.

Wotif: (www.Wotif.com) This is a great online site to visit to get cheap hotel rates in Australia and abroad. You can book your cheap hotel room last minute or up to twenty-eight days in advance. Whether your holiday is in Australia, Scotland or Fiji, Wotif can help you book discount hotel rooms, bed and breakfasts, or apartments in thirty-five countries.

One great feature is that you can enter your travel information and compare hotels, apartments, and bed and breakfasts side by side. If you don't have set travel plans, you can see which dates are cheaper and book accordingly. You can also advance your search by entering in different amenities you'd like, such as pool or a kitchenette.

A sampling of hotels around the world showed that indeed, Wotif provides cheap rates. Want to visit Walt Disney World? The Raddison Resort Orlando, FLA USA is a stone's throw from this world-renowned family destination. For $100 a night ($185 a night full rate) you get a gorgeous room with two double beds, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, exercise facility and a restaurant on site. The best part—kids stay and eat for free as long as they are accompanied by one paying parent.

Want to stay in a Scottish castle for your holiday? The four-star Dalhousie House Castle and Spa in Edinburgh, Scotland offers a luxurious holiday experience that will make you feel like royalty. Standard castle room: $302 ($500 full price) and includes a double occupancy room in this 13th century fortress. For a little more ($350) you could stay in a themed castle room. They both will have their own comforts and bath.

Or perhaps you'd rather experience a decadent South Pacific holiday on Fiji. For $300 ($350 full rate) a night you can stay in the four-star Sonaisali Island Resort. Enjoy a restful holiday on a small island across the lagoon from mainland Fiji, with a health spa, tennis courts and a child minding program that includes sandcastle building. Children stay free of charge.

Smarter Travel: (www.Smartertravel.com) This is an awesome site to review if you want hotel, flight and car hire information. They have a page with links to assorted deals, such as booking a night at the Hilton in NYC and receiving free breakfast or free parking. If you've ever tried to park in Manhattan, you'll realize what a bargain this is!

Plus you can't beat the advice. In the Hotel section, the editor posts his/her favorite deal links which takes you to a detailed page that outlines the fine print (like having to stay for three nights, one being a weekend night). There are also sponsor deals to choose from.

The great thing about this site is that they aren't doing the booking—they link you to the hotel or sponsor in charge of the deal they advertise.

Check with Your Credit Card

This may sound silly, but checking with your credit card could result in cheap hotel rates. Sometimes the major credit card companies will link up with a hotel chain to promote travel and business in a specific area, giving discounts if the consumer uses their credit card.

For example, the Hilton Latin America and Visa have teamed up to give travelers a discounted rate on a stay at the Hilton hotels across Latin America if using a Visa card to pay. You'll also get a continental breakfast and a generous credit toward food and beverage. Of course, there are conditions and limitations, such as a three-night stay, but if you're traveling to somewhere as gorgeous as Buenos Aries, you're going to want to stay for a long holiday.

Check Directly with the Hotel or Hotel Chain

Sometimes you can get a great deal by calling the hotel directly and asking about cheap hotel rooms. If you're calling a chain, such as the Hilton, call the hotel in the town you're staying in, as calling the main line will often get you an operator that's located somewhere else. He/she may not know of the deals that particular hotel branch has to offer.

You can also check online for deals. Many chains, in an effort to beat discount travel websites, offer guaranteed lowest rates if you book directly with the hotel.

In Conclusion

A holiday doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg in hotel fares alone. By doing some research, comparing rates and contacting companies you wouldn't typically think of, you can definitely find a cheap hotel room. Then you can sit back and relax on that well-deserved holiday trip, knowing you didn't have to pay top dollar.

Title: Top Car Rental Tips

Author: Andrea Gastaud

Article: Need to hire a car for your next trip? Renting a car can give you freedom and flexibility but also costs a lot or mean more trouble than pleasure if certain factors are not followed. For a hassle-free trip, read practical tips on saving money, understanding your rental agreement and avoiding problems with your car rental. Prior and during Booking Think carefully about what kind of vehicle you'll need. If you're traveling with children or with a lot of luggage, you may want to rent a station wagon. If it's just for you and another person, rather go for a smaller model which uses less petrol.

Surf the Internet and compare rates from various suppliers in the calm of your home. You can go direct with reliable car rental companies or often better, use a car rental broker working with trustworthy car rental companies. Some car hire broker use what is called dynamic pricing. Everyday they compare the rates of the market and adapt pricing accordingly to offer best rates and often a Best Price guarantee. However if you get a good offer, book immediately as rates may change at any stage. Always make sure you compare apples to apples as some offers do not show inclusions and exclusions and you may up paying much more than you think. Always ask for all details and extra applicable costs of the offer. Some car hire companies offer one free extra driver, some even more. Some charge extra for additional insurance options. The list can be long, insist on a detailed offer showing all charges and services.

Rates are typically cheaper on weekends. If you are flexibility with your rental needs, opt for weekend rental. You can save often around 20%

Weekly rates are usually cheaper and can give you a saving of 30%, sometimes even more.

Choose the right insurance option. When renting a car, you usually have a collision damage waiver (CDW) and a loss damage waiver (LDW). The first covers you in the event of a collision, the second covers any loss to the rental company. If you're paying the car with a credit card, you may be covered for damages associated with an accident. Check with your card company to make sure what is included and what not. Check always very carefully the Excess amounts for any insurance as sometimes they may be very high and be used as security with your credit card at the time of starting your rental. Some rental companies or car rental brokers offer a refundable excess or a without excess option. Often it is only a small additional charge but may be worth the possibility of very high excess charges in case of any damages. Also check if Windscreen and any other insurances are included.

Book early. It's not just a cliche; early bookings pay off and prove to be cheaper than last minute reservations. Rates depend on the amount of vehicles the company has available, so sooner is better. Reserve your car at least a week in advance.

Most rental cars have manual transmissions -- although automatic cars can be found, the price difference is often huge. If you can, always choose manual cars as it is cheaper. Remember also that in some countries driving happens on the other side of the road than where you come from

You may want to take advantage of getting miles credited to your frequent flyer program when using a car rental but enquire prior as car rental companies often charge a small fee when you request frequent flyer miles for your rental.

Consider upgrades to larger vehicles. Sometimes rental companies will offer free upgrades. It is usually done as the category you booked is in high demand. It may seem like a great deal for you. If you really need a larger vehicle then take the upgrade. But if you don't need more space, rather stay with the smaller vehicle as petrol consumption will cost you less than with the upgrade.

Avoid airport pickups. Usually pickups at airports are more expensive due to taxes and fees. If possible choose a nearby location to save on those charges. There can be a difference of 10% depending on the location. If your first drive will be from an airport to a hotel for the night, perhaps rather take a shuttle to the hotel? Doing this may save you the price of a day's rental too.

If you have kids, bring your own child safety seat. Depending on the rental company and location it may be a high extra charge worth taking the child seat with you.

Do you need unlimited mileage or perhaps only 200 km per day? Establish your exact needs prior booking but be aware, extra mileage may cost you a fortune if you exceed the initial package so unlimited mileage options may be cheaper in the end.

Avoid extra day charge. Most rental companies charge per 24 hours. If possible choose to drop your car at the same time or just before the pickup time.

Read the terms and conditions carefully before confirming your reservation and ask about restrictions or possible extra charges. Is there a penalty for cancellation or no-shows? What is the minimum or maximum age restrictions. Are there extra fees if over or under aged, or worse may you even be refused the car at pick-up.

If you return the car at another place than picking it up, it is worth inquiring if a one-way fee applies in your case. When renting more than one week, often one-way fees are waived. Should you travel across boarders they usually always apply and may be very high.

Most car rental companies do not allow their cars on ferries and you are not covered by the insurance. You may consider taking up a separate insurance or rather rent a car at one side and another car on the other side. Also check about restrictions if you cross any boarder with your rented car.

A very good option for medium to long term needs in Europe is to lease a car . You get a brand-new car, all inclusive, can take it on the Ferry, go to most European countries (only few exclusion in the East of Europe) and the rate is really interesting when staying longer.

Make sure you order any needed extras, such as a ski rack, car seat or GPS system at the time of booking as often they are not available at pick-up or will cost you more

Always ask how a company handles accidents, breakdowns or any other unfortunate happenings. If you are traveling to a remote area you want to make sure there is help at hand in form of a extensive network of agencies in the area and usually you get this only by a reputable car rental company

Check the final rate against the advertised one. The rate you see advertised may be without taxes, airport surcharges, additional driver fees, insurance, drop-off charges and any other. You may end up paying more than what you expected. Also, the advertised rate may be valid in one area but not the other depending on seasons and high demand or for a car size that you would find unsuitable. Most of the major car brokers have become more transparent about rates, exclusions and extras, and they now usually show you the total cost of your rental, before finalizing the booking payment. Booking with Auto International will protect you from any unexpected surprises and you can always cancel you rental, 48 prior pick-up and get full reimbursement

Inquire about what documents are needed for taking delivery. If renting in your own country usually a driving license and ID will be enough, however other countries may have different rules especially if your local driving license is not recognized. You will need to apply for an International Driving license well ahead of time. Coming from a non-European country and traveling to Europe and other major countries you usually will need a valid driving license of your country, additional a valid international driving license and a passport valid 6 moths after your return. Copies and temporary documents are usually not accepted. This is a quite new regulation (2008) to avoid fraud.

Find out the latest rules and regulations of the countries you are driving through to avoid any nasty surprises or unexpected costs. For example, theft insurance is mandatory in Italy and there are highway charges for cars driven in Austria or Switzerland ; you'll need to purchase a sticker to avoid paying a fine. In France since July 2008 all cars need to carry a security kit (reflective vest and safety triangle), non-compliance may cost you a fine of 135 Euros.

Always get a confirmed voucher and reservation number. For pick-up at airports, be sure to give your flight number and arrival time prior delivery. This will avoid any problems if the flight is delayed.

Title: Getting A Ticket In A Rental Car: Are There Additional Fees Or Fines?

Author: Amy Nutt

Article:

When driving a rental car, there is a question that looms in the mind of the renter. One of those questions is, "What happens if I get a ticket?" That is a very good question because the car is not in the renter's name. The car is in the name of the rental car company. This means things can get a bit complicated, depending on the company that you're using. Sure, it is simple to say that you just shouldn't do anything to get a ticket. However, it isn't always that easy.

Getting the ticket

So let's say you get a parking ticket. You didn't mean to. You just simply didn't see a sign or parked at a parking meter and forgot to pay it. So you go home, write a check, and mail the payment for your ticket to the city. However, you find a couple weeks later that you receive a letter from the rental car company telling you the ticket has not been paid. You know you paid it, so you call the city and they tell you that they received the payment. You then call the rental car company and you find out that they will charge a fee to you for you having to pass their contact information to the city that has issued you the ticket. This is because it is then on their record that one of their cars received a parking ticket. The catch to this is the fact that the officer issuing the ticket has to take down the VIN and license plate numbers on the car, which are registered under the rental car company.

Sometimes, the only way a fee is assessed is if the car rental company pays the fee and then they pass on the cost to the customer. However, in an instance where you pay the ticket and the car rental company contacts you, chances are they have not checked to see if the ticket was paid. These companies receive thousands of tickets per day and do not have the manpower to check if each and every ticket was paid. When the municipality that issued the ticket contacts the rental car company about a citation, they automatically assume that the ticket was not paid. Sometimes you can fax a receipt from the original payment to the car rental company to have your money refunded. However, the car rental company will charge a fee.

If you receive a speeding ticket, then the penalty is against you and not the car you are driving. Your personal driver's license is involved. The police do check the plates to ensure everything is in check, but it is you who has to pay the penalty and not the car rental company. In fact, the car rental company may not be notified that such a citation occurred in one of their cars. The only way is if something happens you do not pay your fine. If the car rental company has to get involved in that case, then you can expect some kind of additional cost.

Exceptions

There are no exceptions to parking tickets, but the one exception regarding a speeding ticket being against you and not the car is in the case you are caught speeding on camera. If the camera catches you speeding, the authorities use the license plate number to find out where to send the ticket. The rental car company gets the ticket. They may pay it, but will pass the cost and a fee on to you for taking care of it. Yes, it is good to be careful, but it is also good to know how you can be ticketed in a rental car just in case it happens to you.

Title: Car Rental Insurance - should you buy it?

Author: paula

Article:

Taken from http://www.best-car-rental-tips.com

Car Rental Insurance " Is it really necessary?

Should you purchase car rental insurance? This is one of the most common questions asked.

When they get to the rental counter, many renters are unsure about what to do when it comes to accepting or declining an agency's coverages and waivers. This indecision comes from not knowing what their personal or business car insurance covers while they are renting a vehicle. Many people assume that they are covered by their credit card.

As the renter you are fully responsible for any loss of or damage to the rental vehicle. This includes theft of the vehicle as well.

Before you rent a car, you should first check your existing coverages and your credit car coverages.

If you have liability insurance, you are covered, but only for liability. Liability insurance basically covers the driver and passengers but not the rental vehicle itself. If you have liability insurance, (which is required by law) then you are covered in whatever vehicle you drive, as long as it is a rare occurrence, and not part of your normal routine. This includes a rental car. Your insurance company will cover any damages you cause to anyone else (property and injury), up to your limit.

Many drivers are somewhat covered for the average rental (assuming it's for pleasure and not business). If you own a car, talk to your insurance agent. The same coverage and deductibles you carry on your car will apply, in most cases,to a vehicle you rent for pleasure. Be careful. If your policy provides skimpy coverage, you may need to compute the value of the loss or damage of a brand-new vehicle and decide if you need to supplement it.

***tip*** For example, if you decline LDW at the rental counter and rely on your own insurance, you probably would be responsible for paying your usual deductible. Also, a loss-of-use fee is not normally covered by personal auto insurance policies. And, personal auto policies that extend collision coverage to a rental car may only provide a coverage limit equal to the value of your own vehicle. If the value of your personal vehicle is less than that of the rental vehicle, you could still incur some damage responsibility.

Note: Loss of use is a fee that is charged by the rental company if your rental car is damaged and is sent out for repair. You would be billed a loss-of-use fee for every day that the vehicle was not able to be rented. That can add up!

The loss damage Waiver offered by the rental car company covers loss of use.

In addition, if you don't own a car or you rent cars very often, you should ask your insurance agent about buying a non-owner liability policy. It can provide ample coverage for multiple rentals and may prove to be a better bargain than the Damage Waivers offered by the rental companies.. But keep in mind, if you cause damage to your rental vehicle it will cause your regular car insurance premium to increase.

If your travel is for business, check your companyâ?Ts corporate travel policy to see what you are covered for in a rental car.

***Tip*** If a rental vehicle is being used to transport a group (such as a school, team, camp, etc.), the group must provide the rental car company with their own group liability insurance.

Credit Card Coverage.

Besides your personal car insurance, some credit cards will cover damage or theft to your rental car. Note:You are not covered just by being a cardholder; you must use the card to rent and pay for the vehicle.

*** Tip*** Some plans cover accidents only if the cardholder is driving, not the cardholder's spouse.

While this may replace the need for CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) offered at the car rental counter, check with your credit card company to see what kind of vehicles are covered. Credit Card coverage can vary from card to card, and it can also vary based on the issuing bank or credit company that as well.

Check to see if your credit car rental car coverage is primary or secondary. For some credit card companies, itsâ?T coverage becomes primary only if you donâ?Tt have any personal collision insurance of your own.

Credit card companies do not provide coverages for more expensive rentals, so it is necessary to call your credit card company to see which rental vehicles they cover. Usually they provide coverage for cars and exclude more expensive rentals such as sport utility vehicles (SUV's), luxury cars, exotic cars and vans. Credit card coverages may also not cover long-term rentals or rentals in other countries.

***Tip*** Some credit card insurance coverage specifies that you must rent from certain rental companies. Make sure to check this requirement before you reserve your car.

The bottom line is check into everything!!

If you don't need to purchase the optional coverages you will certainly save money, but only if you are truly covered.

Stretch Limousines, they are impressive vehicles and can help you make a dramatic entrance to a party or make for an interesting night on the town. They are the ultimate "bling" transport choice for rappers and footballers' wives alike. These monster-sized cars which have become a must-have for everything from hen nights and 21st birthday parties to American-style teenage prom events, with such features as sound systems, televisions and mini bars have helped boost demand. But remember, the limo you arrive and drive off in at your event are often decisions that require a lot if time and research, so if it's truly a special occasion, don't be cheap, as one of the most important things you can do with hiring a stretch limo, is to avoid an embarassing jockey ride, which can make or break a party. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for: Most higher-end limo companies have superior drivers, vehicles and accoutrements.

These days we all look for things to do to make a day memorable and the majority of the time we put on an extravagant party. Everyone gets in their best clothes and drives their normal broken down car to a fancy party, but the problem is that if you want to escape to another world, a world that is more glamorous than your normal one, then why in the world would you drive your own car? The thing to do is extend the lavish event out of the banquet hall and all the way to your home. A limousine can pick you up form your home and go around town and pick up all of your important guests There are a lot of ways to make a day enjoyable and memorable but very few things display the importance of a person or even to quite like a limousine. After all, if you spend a ton of money on the rest of the day or event, why not put a bit more into the transportation. For sometimes the same amount you can get a luxurious stretched limousine of your choice.

There are several types of limousines available (SUV, stretch limo, party bus, etc.). For the best experience, choose the type that works best for your occasion, taking into consideration how many are in your party and what your plans are. Decide what type of limo you want (standard limousine -four to six passengers, stretch limo -six to eight passengers, superstretch or specialty) and for how long, based on the event and the number of people in your party. What are you looking for, whether it's a bar, stereo, TV and DVD player, video-gaming system, intercom, sunroof, Jacuzzi, or all of that and a bag of chips, prices will and do vary.If there are several people in your party, it's always a good idea to have everyone in your party meet at one location to avoid extra pickup and drop off time. I realize that sometimes this is part of the fun, so use that as a guideline, but realize the cost may go up if the driver has to make extra stops.Limo hire ompanies book their vehicles based on the time frame clients reserve. So if you reserve a limousine from 1-4 p.m. and at 4 o'clock your photographer is still taking pictures you could come out of the church expecting to get into your limousine to be taken to the reception only to find that it has left because it had another engagement at 5 o'clock. Most of the time going over your time period of time is not an issue. But this is something you should discuss when making your reservation.

In selecting the limousine company, you want to make sure the one you choose is properly licensed and insured. Find out if the company has a contingency plan in case the limousine is in an accident or breaks down. If not, then you have two choices. You either have a backup plan in mind or hire another limousine service that you know does have a contingency plan. Conversely, it may be you that has unforeseen problems, so make sure you know in advance what the companies cancellation policy is. Costs can vary based on current demand (such as during prom and wedding seasons).

Changes in the law in the UK which came into force in January requiring all limousines, except those used exclusively for weddings and funerals, to be licensed as Private Hire Vehicles. Make sure that the operator has safety equipment such as fire extinguisher, first aid kits and the correct type of seat belts. You don't want to swap style for safety when you book a stylish limo for your son or daughter's prom? You can ask around to representatives from other companies that regularly use limousine services to find out about various limousine companies reputations. Alternatively, contact the National Limousine and Chauffeur Association, who as a trade body, make sure that their drivers are Criminal Record Bureau-checked, vehicles are properly licensed and that limos have checks every 10 weeks. The limousine industry is not overseen by a government agency that insures companies have the licenses, insurance, and chauffeurs who have been screened and licensed to ensure your safety.
